Make A Wish - Nathan

This struggling avocado tree was in pretty rough shape when The Make a Wish Foundation approached O2 Treehouse to build a dream treehouse for Nathan. Nathan’s requests were modest, a desk, operable windows, and a cool space to have a sleepover with his buddies.

O2 learned the tree had a rough past and had received some aggressive and improperly executed pruning, some cut and compacted roots and a bit of neglect from the previous owners. The tree was in very rough shape and it would be difficult and dangerous to build a treehouse without some properly installed supports. It did however have one redeeming quality; it had a very sturdy 3’diameter trunk. With this in mind O2 Treehouse designed a uniquely engineered steel support system and platform that relied on two very sturdy steel pillars driven deep into the trunks core. With these supports installed, O2 was able to mount the entire structure with only a few additional stabilization cables. This is incredibly minimal for a structure of this size. The treehouse includes a large room with giant picture windows, a lofted bed, a small nook with a desk, and even a small deck outfitted with a pulley system allowing Nathan to bring up all the necessary supplies for whatever adventure he has planned for the day.

The structure is clad in Redwood siding donated to the project from Golden State Lumber, a local lumber supply company that uses reclaimed wood and windows.  The pictures were taken one year after O2’s completed installation and show the tree bouncing back to life after some fertilizer treatment and TLC from the family. The tree and the owners are as happy as can be and Nathan is often seen playing in his hide-away up in the trees.
