Copper Nest

Copper Nest

Copper Nest

Located just outside of Milwaukee WI, this locale enjoys the full richness and beauty of the changing seasons. Therefore, O2 Treehouse’s approach was to create a fully immersed forest environment that would tie in their pre-existing deck, with a size increase that would support larger numbers yet still remain small enough not to deter from the natural beauty of the garden/forest environment. It was important to create an access point between the gardens in the yard and the 8′ raised deck space, while still maintaining a lofted and inaccessible treehouse-like feeling. This was achieved via a slowly stepped side entry that blends conversation from the deck into the side gardens. A shift in the stain color down the middle of the deck subtly outlines a walk way to direct the natural flow of traffic from the deck’s patio entry to the 27′ cat walk. This ‘yellow brick road’ then extends from the edge of the deck into the heart of the woods, connecting to one of O2 Treehouse’s pre-designed geodesic models The Copper Nest Sequoia was also customized with 45 steel awnings, given a rust patina to lend a weathered, bucolic aesthetic, and a fully screened in canopy to protect it’s guests from those that buzz and bite.

Materials: Cedar, 50% Reclaimed Wood, Steel Hubs, Screen, Rebar & Tubing

Honey Sphere

Honey Sphere

Honey Sphere

This custom structure was first exhibited on the grounds of LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art and then moved to its pre-destined home in the backyard of Robby Krieger, guitarist of classic American band The Doors. Robby was looking for a place to relax in his backyard and watch the wildlife as it passed through the woods. He uses The Honey to relax with friends and to create music, often riffing on his acoustic twelve string guitar in the flamenco style. He feels that the structure lends a very magical feeling to its occupants and sparks the imagination of all who enter. The sphere is supported gently by the live oak’s upper branches via steel cabling, preserving the integrity of the tree in order that future generations may enjoy its beauty. Materials: 2nd Growth Red Wood, Doug Fir, Steel Floor System, Steel Interior Hubs

Healdsburg Treehouse

Beyond the functional aspects of the form, branch spacing, and inherent structural dynamics of triangulated forms a strong statement is made by the use of these geometries in the context of a dwelling made for humans in a tree. In the treehouse’s use, meditative pondering of the surrounding architecture may lead one to explore in the mind's eye the deep mysteries that exist of the nesting relationships of volumetric geometries, the energetic structure of our universe. The existence of our flesh, our minds and awareness that comes from it all built around these basic fluctuating geometric relationships.  To be both supported by a living entity and architecturally surrounded by the same underlying geometry in which it and we are made of is a deep spiritual recognition of this relationship. Like many spiritual gathering spaces of ancient architecture in both the east and the west O2 Treehouse uses these geometries to fulfill one of the most important functional qualities treehouses can have, to appeal to our more aspirational desires. Materials: Reclaimed Doug Fir, FSC Certified Chichipate & Walnut, Steel, High Density Polyethylene, Aluminum, Nylon Rope

Calistoga

By opening up the interior space just underneath the canopy of the tree the Calistoga project reveals the best part of being in a tree, its leafy canopy. The multilevel space creates kinetic ares in which the tree can be enjoyed from various perspectives while in play and in rest. The cantilevered enclosed space provides overnight guest accommodations or a floating club house in the sky for sleep overs, of course depending upon the company you keep. The trap door entry separated by a long cat walk recalls the fantasy of a chasm that must be crossed by jaw bridge to access the magical treehouse castle that lies beyond. The structure was styled to reflect the vernacular of other existing buildings on the property. Materials: Kiln Dried Doug Fir, Steel, Cedar Decking & Siding, Galvanized Corrugated Roofing, Maple Finish Paneling, Acrylic, Steel Cable

San Jose Cabin

San Jose

Hanging in between several Western Sycamores this treehouse hangs high above San Jose in the hills over looking the city. Geo East House

The Geo East is nestled within the organic gardens of the East House Community in Los Angeles where it is well loved and enjoyed as a gathering place for community meetings, yoga, meditation, body movement classes, and many other activities. It has been coined the ‘activation station’ by the inhabitants and visitors of East, as it is a place where people love to come together to discuss creating positive change within the community. This is the beginning of a series of GEOs that O2 Treehouse intends to build for this very purpose in community gardens across California (and the world!) These geodesic kits can easily be used as vertical gardens or even greenhouses, adding to both its beauty and its practicality. Treehouse Village

Treehouse Village

Treehouse Village

The Tree Village was built for a family of four in the valley-shaped backyard of their Beverly Hills home. A 55-foot long floating rope-bridge connects a diamond shaped open deck, accessed by a wooden staircase from the forest floor, to a geodesic sphere. The bridge’s slat and pin style construction allows for safe yet free-flowing movement, giving occupants the feeling that they are walking on air as they traverse between structures. The sphere can also be entered via rope ladder and trap door, which is speedily arrived at by a zip line starting near the back door of the main house and arrives near the bottom of the rope ladder. Both the rope bridge and the sphere are rigged amongst multiple trees, using tension plates to secure directionality and form and distribute weight. Since its debut in 2008, the Tree Village has been lovingly used by the whole family for work and play, entertaining and relaxation. The magical, whimsical qualities of this treehouse village have not only captured the hearts of the many whom have visited, but also started a word of mouth fire, putting O2 Treehouse on the map in its new home in California. Materials: Steel Frame & Hubs, Marine Grade Plywood Floor, HDPE canopy, Doug Fir Decking & Rope Bridge, Poly Canvas Canopy
